These audio pieces are inspired by Outdoor Afro. The recordings were made after Yolanda Bradley-Crocker's presentation about Outdoor Afro on August 6th. The subjects chosen -- Sojourner Truth, George Washington Carver and Harriet Tubman -- were African Americans whose careers involved the outdoors.
Yolanda's presentation happened at Mozart Park. Many of Chicago Kaleidoscopes' sessions have involved time spent outdoors at the park. Part of our program has been inspired by nature in this urban environment, such as the odes to nature that CK teens have written. Chicago Kaleidoscopes happens in a city whose motto is “Urbs in Horto,” which is a Latin phrase for “City in a Garden."
